Asia Cup 2014: Shahid Afridi helps Pakistan beat India by one wicket in last-over thriller

Shahid Afridi hit a six in the last over to help Pakistan to a one-wicket win over India, sending them to the top of the Asia Cup table.  Pakistan beat India by one wicket in an enthralling Asia Cup match in Mirpur on Sunday, which went to the final over.      Shahid Afridi (34) won the game in the end for his team with a six.

For Pakistan, Mohammad Hafeez top scored with 75 off 117 balls before falling to Ravichandran Ashwin, who took 44/3 in 9.4 overs.

Sharjeel Khan (25) and Ahmed Shehzad (42) had got Pakistan off to a good start before Sharjeel was clean bowled by Ashwin when they were 71/0.

Two more wickets fell soon after when Pakistan were close to 100.

However, the lower order for Pakistan stuck to their task well and kept them in the game all through.

Earlier in the match, Pakistan unsettled India's batsmen with pace and spin to restrict the World Cup champions to 245-8 earlier after winning the toss and electing to field first.

Saeed Ajmal claimed 3-40, while debutant fast bowler Mohammad Talha and Mohammad Hafeez grabbed two wickets each after Pakistan won the toss and elected to field at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium.

Pakistan had got off to a good start by removing opener Shikhar Dhawan and danger man Virat Kohli by the 10th over.

Opener Rohit Sharma (56) and Ambati Rayudu (58) were the main contributors for India at the top of the order, before Ravindra Jadeja hit an unbeaten 52 off 49 balls towards the end.

Jadeja, who walked in to bat in his 100th one-dayer with his team shaky on 155-5, smashed four boundaries and two sixes to boost the total.

The match had started with empty stadiums in the early part of the game, but a close finish ensured that fans from both India and Pakistan made up for it.
